Since we're not at home and the girls are sharing a bed, Grace feels compelled to wake Ellie. No amount of cajoling can persuade them to go back to bed for even 5 minutes let alone long enough to actually fall back to sleep...which they really need to do.
So...while my mornings have begun ealier than planned, it has been wonderful to witness the sunrise.
The other thing that Ellie and Grace have been doing...well, not doing really...since we arrived is eating good or as they normally do which for them means eating pretty much anything and everything on their plates. Until last night.
Dinner last night was at Hudsons. By all appearances Hudsons is your typical touristy seafood place complete with big fish hanging on the walls and the usual assortment of crabs, clams, oysters, etc. offered by the dozen.
Ellie and Daddy Bob waiting to be seated.
Grace loved coloring and drinking her lemonade.
Hudsons is a local ficture with an impressive history. Beginning as an oyster factory in the 1920's, "Hudson's employs the largest and one of only two remaining fishing fleets on the island which brings fresh local seafood straight from our docks to your table."
Ellie and Grace are definitely their father's daughters when it comes to eating seafood. They will eat mussels, clams, oysters, crab legs...lobster too probably. Last night's request was for mussels which, unfortunately, Hudsons was out of.
After a bit of discussion, it was decided that clams would be a good substitute so John ordered a dozen for table. I think he got one. Seriously. I have never seen clams disappear so quickly. It's fair to say that Ellie and Grace scarfed them down in 5 minutes flat.
And the eating fest didn't stop there. Next came hush puppies which as everyone knows are best served warm with lots of butter. Tricky that...buttering those little bitty hush puppies, but Ellie managed quite nicely.
We were so happy to see the girls eating with their normal gusto that I didn't have the heart to keep telling them to use their forks. The salad seemed to tastiest when dangled into Ellie's like spaghetti. It disappeared just as the clams and hush puppies had and as the rest of their dinner would.
Keep your fingers crossed that the eating continues today and that they sleep past 6 am at least one morning of our visit.
