Minneapolis - Monday part 2

As mentioned in part 1 of today's blog post, Ellie, Grace and I played with butterflies at the Mall of America.

By the time we ventured into Butterfly Bay, it was 3 pm and we'd been there for 5 hours. Even with time out for lunch, it was still a long time to spend in a shopping mall with 3 year old twins. It was also late enough in the day that it just didn't make since to drive back to the hotel for an hour before needing to drive back out and pick John up after work.

We were all tired and I was verging on becoming a cranky mom when we entered Butterfly Bay. To me, butterflies are one of life's simplest, yet greatest joys. The sheer beauty and gracefulness of these delicate creatures enthralls me. To be able to have them land on your hand or shoulder is a miracle. To watch your daughters turn speechless with the wonder of it all...well, it's just pure joy.

When we entered the butterfly enclosure, the ticket seller had advised us to watch where we walked because the butterflies like to sun themselves on the floor and to make sure to check ourselves in the triple mirror before exiting. Seems the butterflies like dark colors and will land on them. Even being forewarned, I was a bit surprised to have a gentleman say that if I'd hand him my camera he'd take a photo of the big butterfly on my back.

Ellie being very still and very serious.

Ellie seemed to have the touch for attracting the butterflies.
