Never, ever leave a nearly full bottle of syrup sitting on the counter, then go upstairs to retreive one child from time-out while the other stays downstairs. When you return, the nearly full bottle of syrup will no longer be nearly full. Just the opposite in fact.
Syrup will instead be overflowing the syrup bottle cap, running onto the table and ending in a huge wet, sticky spot on/in the chair. The table and floor (yes, the floor did not escape the syrup) are easy to clean. The semi-expensive upholstered dining room chair...pre-twins purchase of course...will not be so easily de-syruped.
Any hints as to a good de-stickyfying cleaner would be appreciated. Oh! And you can stop laughing now.
