DC Day 1 - We rode the train to DC

Yep, you read the title correctly. Instead of loading the car to overflowing with kid paraphernalia, driving 5-6 hrs, dealing with traffic on 95 and the Beltway as well as with increasing cranky 2 year olds, we opted to pack light...well, as light as possible with young ones...and loaded them on Amtrak this morning.

The ride was much better than anticipated. The girls filled the time with looking out the window, reading books, standing and jumping in their seats, saying "hi" numerous times to whoever was sitting behind us, eating, watching Dora on Dad's computer and finally...finally taking a nap. Of course, we were nearly to DC by that point, but still...

At the beginning of the trip, I couldn't help but marvel at how traveled Ellie and Grace are at the ripe old age of 2 years, 5 months. Their air travel includes flights within China, from China to the US, to London (London, England not London, Kentucky) and their birthday trip to Disney World.

Their car trips include DC last summer in addition to Nags Head, SC and most recently to Dayton, OH. All in all, not too shabby especially when one remembers that this has all taken place in the past 17 months.

Now, I know that there are children who are far more traveled than Ellie and Grace,
but for one who never traveled outside the US until the ripe old age of 34, it does amaze me just how many trips our girls have already taken.

And there are more trips scheduled - the beach again this summer, TN to visit Grammy and Pappy, back to VA to see friends...
