Trunk or Treat

Halloween in our town, as well as the surrounding towns, has been cancelled the past two years. Halloween 2011 saw 15+ inches of an early snow which toppled trees which fell on power lines and left the state without electricity for at least a week.

Halloween 2012 had Hurricane Sandy. No doubt you've seen photos and are still hearing reports of the widespread devastation left in it's wake all along the east coast. That a storm, even the perfect storm, can result in such massive loss is horrifying and heartbreaking, yet life must continue.

Our town officials and the Neighbors and Newcomers club decided that Halloween must go on as well. Volunteers decorated their vehicles and handed out candy yesterday to countless children. That they went at this with such gusto is admirable. And truth be told, it made such an impression that John and I are hoping it is held again next year so we can help out. There's a mini van waiting to become a grave yard or witches lair or....

In case you're wondering, unlike last year when we were without power for 8 days, this year we lived one of the very few streets in town (2% of the town according to the CL&P Power Outage Map Tuesday morning) which never lost power. For that, we are beyond thankful.
