This post is about the birds that have been partaking of the birdseed in the bird feeder hanging on our deck, a scant 10 ft from the door.
Thanks to my dad for the tip about adding cayenne pepper to the birdseed to discourage squirrels and other hungry critters! The raccoons do still play with the feeder on those nights that bringing it inside slips my mind. While they tend to spill the birdseed, they have yet to eat it as far as I can tell.

Cardinals and crackles sat still long enough for a photo to be taken. The winterized gold finches flew too soon as did the nuthatches.
While standing at the door Wednesday, enjoying watching the snow, movement drew my eye to one of our many burning bushes in time to see a flock of robins land in it. I dove for my camera, but most flew before I could get a photo. This lone robin was kind enough to delay it's flight.
Tufted titmouses...titmice?...have been taking turns flying in to snatch a bit of seed before flying back to their nests with it. I haven't figured out if they're taking it back to hungry mates or stockpiling it. Either way, they're fun to watch.
Junkos are another favorite. They rarely fly up to the feeder, prefering to sit below it and get seeds that are dropped by others. There were usually three of them sitting on the rail with feathers fluffed to stay warm.
